“When you look into most espresso equipment businesses, unfortunately, the gender-stereotype roles is still present - the women performing administrative duties and the men being the brain and brawn behind the machines. I'm in charge of the parts department, responding to technical requests from customers who have coffee machines needing repair. I feel that some men still can't get their head around the fact that a woman could know anything more about machines. Sometimes a male customer would walk in, ignoring my presence, demanding to speak directly to a "he/him" technician. I've also once had a male customer over the phone who jumped to the conclusion "no I don't think you can help me" before providing the model number of his machine to me. There are dozens of models under one make and they don't all share the same part, but in this case, I wasn't even given the chance to do my job.
Luckily this doesn't happen every day and I have a wonderful, supportive work environment where equal opportunities are given." - Heidi, Parts Department Manager @geniuscoffee
